Hope to Keep Going: Jason and Becky’s Adoption Journey

Jason and Becky began their adoption journey in the fall of 2023 with hopeful hearts and a deep desire to grow their family through adoption. After completing their home study in November 2024, Jason and Becky were matched with an expectant mother in Florida who was due with twins. They traveled to visit her, spent time building a relationship, and prepared their hearts for what they hoped would be the beginning of parenthood. But just a few weeks before the babies were due, she made the decision to parent.

Their hearts were broken.

Still, Jason and Becky chose to move forward. In September 2025, they matched again with an expectant mother in Florida. They traveled for the birth and waited in a hotel room, hoping for the call that they could meet the baby girl they had been preparing for. Once again, the expectant mother made the decision to parent. “This was incredibly difficult,” they shared. “We were in disbelief that a disruption happened once again.” After two disruptions, Jason and Becky were facing not only grief, but also the emotional and financial weight that so many hopeful adoptive families carry. They wondered whether they could continue. They worried that another match might not be possible. They feared their adoption journey might be over. But with the support of their adoption team, family, friends, and community, they decided to try once more.

In April 2026, they matched with an expectant mother in Illinois who was due in May. On May 12, their lives changed forever when they met their beautiful daughter, Jailynn Marie! 💗

The Emotional Weight of Adoption

Jason and Becky described their adoption journey as one filled with a vast array of emotions: grief, hope, fear, excitement, doubt, devastation, and joy. Like many families, their journey began with grief — the grief of realizing that having a biological child would not be part of their story. Adoption became the path they chose to build their family and provide a child with a life full of love, support, and opportunity.

The disruptions brought profound heartbreak. They shared honestly about the pain of losing a match, the doubt that followed, and the question so many families quietly carry: “Would we ever have a family of our own?” And yet, when they learned their daughter would be placed with them, the moment was almost too big to believe. “When we received the news that our daughter was going to be placed with us, it took our breath away,” they shared. “Was this real? Could we trust that this was truly going to be our turn?” Now, one month after placement, they say their hearts are full.

The Impact of the Beyond the Match Grant

Jason and Becky are the first recipients of a Beyond the Match disruption grant, a grant created to support families who have experienced the heartbreak and financial burden of adoption disruption. For them, the grant arrived during their third adoption attempt, at a time when they still had agency fees, legal fees, and travel expenses to cover. “This grant provided us with hope to continue our adoption journey,” they shared. “We had multiple times that we considered ending our journey due to the financial impact of adoption.” The grant helped ease their burden quickly and professionally, allowing them to keep moving forward at a time when continuing felt uncertain. But the gift was more than financial. It was emotional.

Their community of support gave them strength when they felt they had none left. Their family and friends never lost hope. Their adoption team walked with them through the hardest moments, and the grant reminded them that others believed in their family, too.

Why Giving Matters

When asked what they would say to someone considering supporting adoption through giving, Jason and Becky’s answer was powerful: “The amount of lives touched through giving cannot be counted on two hands. Adoption is so much more than the idea of building a family. This is about changing the life of a child forever.”

They also recognized the deep love and courage involved in adoption, including the love of a birth mother making an incredibly difficult decision for her child. Their story reflects not only the joy of placement, but also the grief, sacrifice, and humanity woven throughout adoption. For Jason and Becky, this grant gave them hope — hope to push through the hard, hope to continue after loss, and hope to look toward the future.
